En el año 1650 un terremoto destruye el convento de la Merced de Cuzco, por lo que ha de ser reconstruido de nuevo. Con este motivo se lleva a cabo en el claustro bajo una celda, apodada del Padre Salamanca, cuyos muros y techos están totalmente recubiertos con pinturas al temple, que componen un programa iconográfico unitario, a pesar de que se observan varios estilos y la participación de al menos dos o tres artistas. Se aborda en este trabajo el estudio de la ilustración del juego de la Filosofía cortesana que acompañaba la edición de Madrid, 1587 y que hoy no se conoce, aunque se ha descubierto recientemente el tablero del juego de la edición de Venencia, 1588; se incluye un estado crítico de la cuestión y la aportación de una carta que documenta el conocimiento del Juego de la Oca en los años anteriores a la impresión de la obra de Barros. ABSTRACT: In this study I deal briefly with some issues related to the visual culture of the Baroque festival; and more specifically, with those related to the royal portraits that were on display during the festive activities. Este artículo trata del denominado «apareamiento por la boca» (oriscoitus) de las serpientes y su simbología en los libros de emblemas latinos de los siglos XVI y XVII, revisando las diferentes interpretaciones que los autores ofrecen de este ancestral argumento e identificando las fuentes (literarias y gráficas) clásicas, medievales y renacentistas. ABSTRACT: This article studies the ceremonial funeral rites for Prince Baltasar Carlos of Austria, son of Philip IV and the hope for the healing of a monarchy in crisis, in the exequies celebrated in the city of Zaragoza, where the young heir to the throne died shortly before his seventeenth birthday, in 1646. The monumental catafalque erected in the plaza of the market place (a fantastic ephemeral tumulus characterized by a splendid Baroque architecture full of symbols), demonstrates the magnificence with which the death of such a beloved prince was presented to the public, in the second third of the seventeenth century. ABSTRACT: This study analyzes the meaning of the impresa or device of the pomegranates, with the motto « Agro dulce », utilized by Henry IV (1425-1474), of the House of Trastamara, King of Castile from 1454 until his death. By means of a review of vestiges that remain of the device, especially in architectonic elements, I postulate that the pomegranate may have been used as the family impresa of the House of Trastamara and their descendants. This, it seems, can be deduced from the pictura of the device in several personal imprese of relatives who lived in the sixteenth century. En este estudio se aborda, bajo una visión general, los textos y las imágenes presentes en algunos epitalamios e himeneos: composiciones poéticas de los siglos XVII y XVIII, realizadas en las cortes europeas con motivo de los matrimonios concertados entre sus miembros. Sus imágenes emblemáticas y simbólicas, son de gran interés para la historia del arte, pues se inspiran en las composiciones de los libros de emblemas del periodo y desarrollan temas habituales en la literatura matrimonial. ABSTRACT: If in the French original of Le Chevalier delibere one can appreciate the intimate relationship between the poetic text and the gorgeous engravings that accompany and illustrate it, in the tranlated version of Acuna this association is even stronger, to the point that one might say that the translator not only translates the French text linguistically, but also the book's images.
